Bill Pitt — a true racing idol

Dear Jaguar Lovers only few of us know about William (Bill) Pitt, who is a former Australian racing driver and motor racing official. His name has been well known for the XK120, D-Type, Mark VIII and a Mark 1 touring. He worked with Queensland's Jaguar agents Cyril and Geordie Anderson of Westco Motors to achieve distinguished positions among his contemporary drivers.

Pitt first started his early racing career with in 1948 Australian Grand Prix and within just 2 years he was an eminent name in the racing world. Through his selective involvement in the racing world he proved the triumph of quality over quantity. Veritably, among the other Aussie racing enthusiasts, Bill was the one who brought Australia into the real racing. 

He and his co-drivers Geordie Anderson and Charlie Swinburne won  Australia’s first 24 hour car race at Mt Druitt in Jan 1954 in a Jaguar XK 120. He finished 11th in the 1954 Australian G.P. at Southport driving an Anderson-Jaguar which was an XK 120 modified as an open wheeler.
